The Digital Sanctuary: Reclaiming Faith and Focus in a Distracted World

A monthly column helping Christians reflect on their digital habits and rediscover Jesus in the age of screens. 🖥️

A young person seated alone, illuminated by their phone screen in a dimly lit room — reflecting digital overload and quiet introspection.

We scroll before we pray.
We refresh more than we rest.
We’re connected to everything — yet often disconnected from what truly matters.

Welcome to The Digital Sanctuary — a sacred space in a screen-filled world.
A place to pause. Reflect. Realign.
A monthly column that explores how our digital lives are shaping our spiritual lives — and how we can walk more closely with Jesus through it all.

Why Your Digital Life Matters to Your Faith

The average adult spends more than six hours a day in front of a screen.
Youth and young adults? Even more.

Our phones have become the first and last voices we hear each day.
Yet many of us feel tired, overwhelmed, and spiritually dry — like we’re scrolling through life without truly living it.

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:15–16 (NIV)
An open Bible beside a smartphone on a wooden table, symbolizing the intersection of faith and technology.

This isn’t just about avoiding distractions. It’s about reclaiming purpose.
God is calling us to live intentionally — even in the digital world.

What You’ll Find in This Column

Each month, The Digital Sanctuary will offer thoughtful reflections on your faith in the digital age.

  • How to balance screen time with spiritual time
  • What digital habits are doing to your mind and heart
  • How to reflect Jesus in what you post, scroll, and share
  • How to guide children and teens through the digital world
  • Why logging off is sometimes the holiest thing you can do

Whether you’re leading a ministry, raising a family, studying in school, or serving behind the scenes — you’ll find something for you here.

Rooted in Mission

The Seventh-day Adventist Church invites us to prepare for Christ’s soon return by living lives of faith, discipline, and love.
But in today’s hyperconnected world, digital overload can quietly draw us away from that mission.

This column exists to bring us back —
Back to presence.
Back to peace.
Back to purpose.

It’s not about rejecting technology.
It’s about using it wisely, humbly, and for the glory of God.

A Look at What’s Ahead

Here are a few topics we’ll explore in the coming months:

  • Faith in the Feed: How to see Christ in your scroll
  • Screens & Souls: The emotional cost of endless connection
  • Digital Discipleship: Raising spiritually strong children in a tech-driven world
  • The Sacred Power of Logging Off: How a digital Sabbath can renew your soul
  • Beyond the Scroll: Reclaiming your attention — and your joy

Each piece is written with a warm, honest tone — offering truth, challenge, and encouragement.

🙏🏽 A Sanctuary for You

You don’t need to be tech-savvy.
You don’t need to have all the answers.
You just need to be willing to pause… and ask:

“What is my digital life doing to my spiritual life — and what is God calling me to do with it?”

If that question stirs something in you…
You belong here.

This is your sanctuary.
One where screens slow down, souls wake up, and faith becomes intentional again.
